Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
