NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
