Ah, the steam. If a poker gambler states never to have peered down the shadow of a looming steam – they are either lying or they haven’t been playing very long. This does not indicate of course that every poker player has been on steam in the past, some players have wonderful control and take their squanderings as a defeat and keep it at that. To be a brilliant poker gambler, it’s very critical to treat your wins and your losses in a similar way – with little emotion. You compete in the match the same way you did following a tough beat as you would after winning a big hand. Most of the poker pros are not tempted by tilting following an awful beat as they are particularly accomplished and you should be to.
You have to understand that you can not win every hand you’re in, even if you are strongly favored. Hands which frequently cause players to go on tilt are hands that you were the favorite or at a minimum thought you were until you were side swiped and you lost a huge portion of your stack. Awful defeats are bound to develop. Embrace that idea right now, I will say it once again – if your sister plays cards, if your parents play cards, if your grandma enjoys cards – They have all had poor losses at some point. It’s an unavoidable effect of competing in Hold’em, or really any kind of poker.
After all we are assumingly (almost all of us) in the game for a single purpose – to acquire $$$$, it does make sense that we will gamble appropriately to maximize profits. Now let’s say you are up $100 off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you take a big hit in a NL game and your stack is at one hundred and twenty dollars. You have burned eighty dollars in a round where you were certain to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and held a 10 – 1 advantage. And that guy! He banged you out on the river? – Well stop right here. This is a quintessential opportunity for a brand-new bettor to start tilting. They really just lost too much money on one round that they should have won and they are aggravated
