Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player.
