Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt.
